Bien de Altura Ikewen Tinto 2022

Bien de Altura Ikewen Tinto 2022

This is an aromatic and vibrant wine, with bright red fruits that are accented with wild mountain herbs and that savory wildness that is common to the wines from the Canary Islands. Medium bodied with a round and concentrated midpalate where the dynamic volcanic energy lifts the flavors, both fruit and savory, and lengthens the long mineral driven finish. This is a wine that comfortably sits at the border between “natural” and “conventional”, it is lower alcohol, uses minimal sulfur and has subtle savory components. The core of the wine is fruit, which is expressive and clean. Bien de Altura is one of the superstar/cult producers from the Canaries.

The 2022 Ikewen Tinto reminds me of the character of the 2018, perhaps a little narrower and spicier. It fermented with 100% full clusters but was still unoaked. There's also a lot of finesse here; it's elegant and floral, ethereal but with lots of energy and light. There was a big increase in production, and he reached 13,500 bottles this year.
