Chateau Certan Pomerol 1994
Chateau Certan Pomerol 1994
The oldest listed wine estate in the Pomerol appellationâits history dates back to the 16th centuryâVieux ChĂąteau Certan has its origins in a Scottish family: the Demay family. Georges Thienpont, a wine merchant operating in Belgium, bought it in 1924, and his heirs have been running it since the late 1950s.
The Vieux ChĂąteau Certan estate is mentioned by the engineer-geographer Belleyme on his famous map of 1785.
Remember the beautiful summer of 1994, so favourable for Merlots, the vintage of early soils. The prestigious Pomerol plateau, on which the Vieux ChĂąteau Certan is situated, benefited from the best hot days of the end of August and beginning of September for the ripening of grapes. The harvesting of "fresh" and perfectly ripe grapes allowed for the optimal conservation of all the aromas, indispensable to the desired aromatic concentration.
The Vieux ChĂąteau Certan 1994, after three weeks' fermentation was matured for eighteen months in new oak barrels. The vinification was carried out on individual varieties, taking into account their age and the nature of the soil. The cuvee was prepared with 75% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Franc, rigorously selected in the Vieux ChĂąteau Certan style, expressing the quintessence of the year and not transient tastes.
After decanting you will discover, in addition to the brilliant ruby colour, a large palette of aromas, of which the dominant elements are raspberry and violet. Its subtle structure expresses great complexity and a pronounced elegance.
The deliberately limited production for 1994 once again reveals my desire to create an exceptional wine which should reach maturity after 8 to 10 years.
