Domaine de Ferrand Chateauneuf du Pape 2012

Domaine de Ferrand Chateauneuf du Pape 2012

Domaine de Ferrand is a leading producer in the southern RhÎne with vineyards in both the appellations of Chùteauneuf-du-Pape and CÎtes-du-RhÎne. The core parts of the domaine can be traced back to 1760, and the Bravay family have owned it since the 19th Century. The first wines were only bottled in 1997, when Philippe Bravay took over, ending the supply to a négociant and cooperatives.

Critical Acclaim

95 Wine Advocate

The 2012 Chñteauneuf du Pape is jaw-dropping good! Made from 92% Grenache and the rest a mix of permitted varieties, aged all in concrete tank, it boasts fabulous notes of truffles, damp earth, wild herbs and both kirsch and darker berry fruit. Full-bodied, beautifully concentrated and even voluptuous, it covers the mouth with fruit, has sweet tannin and a hard-to-resist personality. Drink this beauty over the coming decade or longer. Enough can’t be said about the quality coming from this tiny estate, and proprietor Philippe Bravey is fashioning one of the top traditionally made Chñteauneuf du Papes out there.

94 Vinous

Brilliant ruby. Potent aromas of fresh red berries, cherry and licorice, with a suave floral overtone. Sweet, sharply focused, concentrated black raspberry and cherry compote flavors tighten up with air and cisplay real energy for their depth and power. A touch of white pepper adds cut to the long, penetrating finish, which lingers with appealing sweetness and gentle, slow-building tannins.
