Talley Vineyards Chardonnay San Luis Obispo Coast 2020

Talley Vineyards Chardonnay San Luis Obispo Coast 2020

Bright pale-yellow center, with streaks of silver at the rim. The nose opens with tones of white peach and nectarine, salted lemon peel, and wet stones. The palate is vibrant and focused, with ample richness to flesh out a mouthfeel that’s also staying agile and focused. There is volume to the wine, yet it has poised roundness that is elegant and inviting, really showing off the precision of the best vineyards Talley owns. Just delicious. Drink now–2030.

92 Vinous

Bright straw-yellow. Lively, mineral-tinged citrus and orchard fruits on the nose; jasmine and vanilla flourishes add complexity. Bright and nervy on the palate, offering spice-laced pear, Meyer lemon and peach flavors and a hint of candied ginger. Turns deeper on the persistent finish, which repeats the mineral and pear notes and leaves a floral note behind.

90 Jeb Dunnuck

From a multi-generational farming family in coastal reaches of San Luis Obispo County, Talley has been making stellar Estate Chardonnay since 1986. This bottling incorporates four vineyards; principally Rincon (own-rooted, planted in 1982 along the steep western hillsides of the family farm) and Rosemary vineyards (own-rooted, planted in 1988 at the family home) which truly embody the cool climate of the Arroyo Grande Valley. Employing classical techniques, the elevage of this wine include 25% new French oak aging. Creamy and energetic, the wine boasts a perfumed bouquet with fresh pear, melon, white peach and white flowers on the nose.
